Jahtiva, the roots reggae brainchild of father-daughter duo Mario and Mia Jativa, takes its semi-eponymous name from a clever play on words that translates to "God's Flower." With a sound deeply influenced by the classic roots reggae of the mid to late 70s, Jahtiva has continued to captivate a diverse and growing global audience with an expanding catalog of original tracks as well as covers, honoring the genre's rich history while pushing it forward into the future.
Originally emerging as a concept out of a series of impromptu recordings between Mario, who toured with The English Beat and performed with the Soul Syndicate band, and his daughter, who’d been playing music with him all her life, Jahtiva released their debut EP in 2024, featuring an all-star cast of collaborators including reggae drum legend Santa Davis, Slightly Stoopid trombonist Andy Geib, and Grammy-winning sound engineer Fabian Cooke.
Following the release of their first three singles "Medicine Woman" 'Kamaki" and “Private Person” as well as a string of well-received live performances, Jahtiva’s momentum is at an all-time high as they continue marching towards their goal of creating powerful, uplifting music and inspiring young musicians to pursue their dreams. As they prepare to record their second EP, Jahtiva is also setting their sights on expanding their reach beyond their San Diego base, with plans for shows in nearby regions and partnerships with reggae DJs and sound systems.
